Department Leadership

Michael Griswold is the director of the Office of Strategy and Innovation. He is responsible for managing strategic business planning work, leading operational and organizational performance management processes, and conducting annual evaluations such as the Employee Climate Survey and Community Survey.

Michael served as deputy director of the office from 2022 until 2025. He previously served as business manager for the Department of Human Resources, and as a management analyst.

Griswold holds a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has undertaken additional trainings and certifications through the UNC School of Government, University of Maryland, and Central Piedmont Community College. He has participated in Leadership Charlotte’s Leaders Under 40 program and is a certified change management practitioner.
